We are Citizens, people who see the world as a work always in progress. This is where the story of Citizen watches begins, in a modest factory whose original manufacturing spirit still lives today.
Shokosha Watch Research Institute was founded in 1918, was Gotō Shinpei, mayor of Tokyo to name Citizen the first watch made a pocket watch in 1918 in the hope that it would win people’s favor.
When Shokosha became a company in the following years and took the name of this watch, the Citizen Watch Company Ltd was born.
The spirit of craftsmanship still lives today in the hands of the craftsmen who skilfully create the new models of their machines.
The production line
In every Citizen factory, the day cannot but begin with a scrupulous check of the production line.
The goal is the creation of watches beautiful and precise, the maintenance and improvement of the machines that actually produce them is the first step.
Citizen technicians spend a lot of time and effort making painstaking, painstaking manual adjustments.

This is a process that is repeated day by day to ensure that all production equipment is optimized, although the skill always lies in the hands of the technicians.
In Citizen, the watches of high precision are assembled strictly by hand.

The title of “Meister” is reserved exclusively for the most skilled craftsmen who distinguish themselves in the creation of products of the highest caliber whether it is a new watch just released from the chain or whether it’s servicing an older model.

In Citizen, watchmakers must perform extremely difficult tasks and pass rigorous internal tests and examinations to earn the primary certification of Meister, in fact only a small percentage of factory technicians acquire such certification, but even rarer are those who, thanks to their dedication and passion, manage to acquire such a high level of attention to detail as to be able to create impeccable machines at any cost, creating Citizen watches and taking them to a higher level thanks to this, these craftsmen are rewarded with the qualification of super meister.
All the Citizen craftsmen are very keen on their scrupulous work and put their already extremely high skills to work on a daily basis.
