We are in the early 60s of the last century and while a busy United States of America space agency was preparing to conquer the moon and space, another historic company was refining its construction techniques to try its hand at the same epic enterprise, but not we are talking about the Soviet Union, with this article we want to tell you about the company founded in 1875 in New York by Joseph Bulova, who with passion and dedication transformed what are commonly known as timepieces into precision machines ready to face the perils of space, in addition to time.
On August 2, 1971, the Apollo 15 space mission once again made history, and after the success achieved two years earlier with the Apollo 11 mission that brought the first man into space, Apollo 15 returned to our satellite for the second time and with it the first chronograph, the Bulova Lunar Pilot.
A highly customized watch by Bulova to face the adverse conditions of the lunar space, thus performing its task very well and providing the Apollo 15 team with the exact passage of time while guaranteeing the time to check all those that were the vital parameters including oxygen reserves, water or battery charge placed inside the backpack that served as their life support.
The Bulova Lunar Pilot was also used as an on-board timer in the critical phases of re-entry into the Earth’s atmosphere.
Bulova, thanks to its famous engineering experience, since the dawn of space programs, at the turn of the 50s and 70s was a partner of NASA during the most sensitive phases of the conquest of space.
This cooperation led Bulova to contribute for 46 missions within the space programs contributing the innovative Accutron technology on all the timekeeping instruments.
More than 50 years later and to commemorate the Apollo 15 mission that saw Commander David Scott and Lunar Module Pilot James Irwin as protagonists, Bulova recreates history by meticulously following what we can consider the most authentic and original replica ever created, thanks to these assumptions and in honor of the year 1971, Bulova presents to the world the special limited edition edition of the Lunar Pilot chronograph, a very faithful replica in the original version updated with the exclusive very high performance movement which boasts a vibration at 262 KHz frequency at guarantee of unmatched and unprecedented precision in the history of time measurement.
The creation of the brand new Bulova Lunar Pilot watch, in addition to making use of the precious contribution of history, boasts excellent features such as the hands treated with luminor, the tachymeter, the calendar and water resistance up to 50 meters.
In addition to the Lunar Pilot Limited Edition model, Bulova decides to make the same model in other variants such as the steel version with double interchangeable strap in the nylon variant and in the nubuck leather variant, the version with steel bracelet and the Total Black version with ultra resistant leather military.
Bulova commemorates the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 15 mission with the aforementioned limited edition Lunar Pilot.
The Archive Series family is proud and honored to present the model celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 15 moon landing where Bulova was present as an individual and personal endowment of Captain Scott.
This model updated with the most sophisticated time measurement techniques is extremely faithful in its aesthetics for shape and movement, celebrating that August 2nd which in 1971 brought the Apollo 15 Crew to mark history with the Bulova Lunar Pilot chronograph customized for work without hesitation and without uncertainty in lunar atmospheric conditions, in fact the Lunar Pilot could track time with surgical precision and ensure that no one is left without those indispensable life-saving equipment
Thanks to Bulova Apollo 15 and NASA made history, thanks to NASA and Apollo 15 Bulova and its Lunar Pilot remained firmly anchored to them.
